ReplyDelete1) Chinese cars – The supply curve for electric and hydrogen vehicles will shift to the left (increase) and the curve for petrol cars will shift to the right. This is because of the Chinese government subsidising fuel efficient cars in an attempt to control the air pollution in cities. As a result, businesses will use more of their resources to produce these cars because they will see that there is more profit involved there.
2) Houses – The supply curve for houses will undergo an increase shift, due to the encouragement and laws made by the Labour party to stimulate the house building industry.
3) Coffee prices – The supply curve for coffee beans has increase – shifted after a good harvest. This means that prices are much lower. However, this is only for the companies that produce coffee and those who purchase beans from shops, and not for those who buy coffee from baristas. This is because the companies like Starbucks know that discounts at shops will not cause consumers to feel more satisfied, because of the ‘loss aversion’ effect. Moreover, customers are willing to pay more at shops, so discounts will not benefit the company. There are also other factors, such as hedging and government intervention.
4) Onions armed robbery – There has been a large decrease shift in the supply curve for onions in India which has caused prices to rise. This is because of the heavy monsoon rains damaging onion crops. To get rid of the excess demand, the price has suddenly risen. However, as many people see onions as a staple food, some have taken to armed robbery on order to get them.
5) But why sell? – In this case, there has been a decrease shift in the supply curve, which is causing prices to soar.
6) Burnt apples – There has been a decrease shift in the supply curve for memory chips from China because of the fire at one of their main factories. This will in turn cause the supply curves of things like smartphones and laptops to shift to the left.
7) Parks – This is an example of fixed supply. The curve of parking spots would be a vertical line, so the limited numbers of available parking spots are being sold at auctions to maximise the price.
8) Wheat, bread and pizza – The supply curve for wheat in the UK has shifted to the left because of the weather as well as a “myriad of factors” such as restrictions on pesticides and other crop protecting chemicals.
9) Life’s a beach – the supply curve of blue flags awarded to beaches has shifted to the left owing to higher judging standards.
10) Rock lobster – As a result of the harsh winter in Scotland, the supply curve for lobster has undergone a decrease shift. They are only catching around 10% of last year’s amount and this will cause prices to spike.
11) You say tomato, I say… - The supply curve for tomatoes in Brazil has shifted to the left because of a combination of bad weather, high production costs and less availability of farmland. This shift has affected a number of people and has even caused political problems.

Rock Lobster: The supply curve for lobster/seafood in Scotland has shifted. This would be a decrease because they are 90% down on last years amount due to cold winters which have affected the sea temperature. Therefore, this has also caused prices to rise.
You say tomato I say...: There has been a shift in the supply curve for tomatoes in Brazil. This shift would be a decrease because of heavy rains, high fuel prices, very high demand and a reduction in the area used for plantation. This has also caused the price of tomatoes to rise.
