Big Question - Needs and Wants

14 comments:

  1. a. Picture I shows somebody living in poverty surrounded by things that she/he needs to survive. In other words, all she has are the fundamental requirements for a human to survive. This is what she needs. In picture J, you can see a family out for a luxurious dinner at a restaurant. They wanted to go out for dinner, therefore they have. It is not a necessity, but something they desired. This shows the difference between a need and a want.
    b. Resources such as land, labour and enterprise are limited because there are simply not enough in the world to fulfil each and everyone's needs and wants.

  2. a) I and J are two complete opposites, picture I showing someone with only what they need to survive (or even less than what is necessary) eating what they can get. Whereas J shows a group of people enjoying a dinner based on what they want, as they could have eaten anything, they did not need to have such delicacies to eat.

    b) Resources are finite as they will run out one day and will not last forever

  3. A)) "I" shows a man surrounded buy almost all his basic needs: you can see food, water, heating, and clothing in this picture these are "needs" as we require these resources to survive. On the other hand the people in picture "J" are seen satisfying their wants rather than needs the fact that what they are drinking is not water makes it a want, eating out at a restaurant is also a want. the different between the pictures is the man in "I" is seen satisfying his needs while the people in "J" are seen satisfying their wants

B)) There are not enough resources to satisfy peoples unlimited wants and needs making these resources finite

  4. A)The picture shown for I shows us a circumstance in which the person only has the basic needs. Our needs have to be supplied to us for us to live. These basic needs include only a few things such as; food, water, heating and clothing. On the other hand J shows our wants. It shows a group ordering what they WANT not what they NEED. I can see this from the woman serving the drinks, they are not drinking water they are drinking a sort of soft drink. this is just one example of a want.
    B) The resources are finite because there is not enough to supply everyone's needs and wants, they will run out one day.

  5. A) I shows someone who is using anything to survive. He is only satisfying his basic needs. I is only getting food/water from the jug in his hand, heating from the small fire and he has clothes on. so he has only whats needed for survival. On the other hand J shows people buying and getting what they want not what they need to survive e.g. the comfortable chairs or the napkins on their laps.

B)Resources are finite as there is only a limited number of each resource on this earth. For example there are around 7 billion people on this world so its impossible to have 8 billion workers.

  6. a) Picture I shows a man living in poverty surrounded by his basic needs (food, water etc). These are 'needs' as you need them in order to survive. Whereas picture J shows people going out for a meal. Although food is a need, they're having what they want to eat, so this counts as a 'want'. The difference between picture I and J is that picture I is seen satisfying their needs whilst J their wants.

b)There are not enough resources to satisfy everyone's needs and wants making them finite.

  7. a) I and J are opposites because picture I showing someone with only what you need to survive, Whereas J shows eating dinner in a fancy restaurant eating what they want, they eat things that they don't need to eat.

    b) Resources are finite as one day they will run out.

  8. Picture I shows a man living in poverty having the basic needs. There are the needs that people have to have to survive unlike in picture J it shows people going out for a meal. Although food is a need, they are having what they want. Both pictures represent the need of food but In I it is actually a need while J is a want

There are not enough resources to satisfy everyone's needs and wants making them finite

  9. Barney A) Picture I shows a person living in poverty surrounded by only his needs that he requires to survive. However, J shows a group a people are eating a meal in a restaurant which is a want because we all like to dine out once in a while with nice food however it is not needed in order for us to survive.
    B) Resources are finite because we have a limited supply of them and they will run out at some point

  10. a. the top picture shows a person living in quite a low standard of life, since they are surrounded with their needs only. however,. the bottom picture shows a group of people eating a meal in a fancy restaurant which is not a need, because eating in a restaurant is not a necessity to survive, therefore being a want rather than a need.

resources are finite because we dont have an endless supply of them. they will eventually run out. - yahya

  11. a) I and J are completely different. I shows our basic essentials and necessities, (food, water, shelter) while J shows people eating out in a restaurant which is a want because you dont need to visit the restaurant to survive, you could eat at home and save money.

    b) these resources are finite because one day, eventually they will run out.

  12. a) Images I and J show to different economic situations. Picture I illustrates our needs ( food and water ), whereas J shows people eating at a restaurant because they want to, not because they need to.

    b) Resources are 'finite' because there is a limit to how much is available. One day all the Earth's resources will eventually run out.

Image I shows someone using everything he can to survive. he needs all of what he has and more to survive. so therefore he doesn't have the luxury of having something he wants. However in Image j the people are having soft drinks at a restaurant. We do not need soft drinks like Coke, to survive, just water. we also don't need to eat food at restaurants however we can if we want to which highlights the differences between needs and wants.

Resources are 'Finite' as they will eventually all run out so there wont be any resources left on earth. this means they are scarce which means they are the main cause of the basic economic problem

  14. A) Picture "I" shows a person trying to do one of the things he/she needs to do in order to survive (eat). If this person does not do this he/she will die, therefore she needs to eat. on the other hand, image "J" shows a family eating at a nice restaurant, just like the person in image "I", this family does need to eat to survive, however, they do not need to eat at a restaurant, therefore this is a want. ( something which fulfills their desires.)
    B) Resources such as land, coal and oil are "finite" because there are not enough of them to fulfill the needs and wants of every person. This is the basic economic problem.
